JD Property Management, Inc. is a Leader in Saving Energy

The Business
JD Property Management, Inc., established in 1974, is one of the largest fee-based property managers in Southern California. The management company oversees more than 3,500 residential units and more than one million square feet of commercial/industrial space.

The Challenge
JD Property Management, Inc., wanted to provide energy and cost savings to its small business customers, but didn’t have the personnel and time to manage an extensive energy savings program single-handedly.

The Solution
Christine Palme, property supervisor for JD Property, Inc., made a single phone call to the Small Business Energy Alliance. “They could not possibly have made this easier for me,” said Christine, who was in charge of implementing and overseeing her company’s energy savings program.

With a full load of daily responsibilities, Christine admits that she was not initially enthusiastic about taking on the project. That early attitude changed after Christine contacted the SBEA.

“Christine Baginski from the Small Business Energy Alliance met with us to explain the program and then took over from there. She organized everything and followed through,” said Christine. “She helped us provide a valuable service to our clients.”

The Response
Eight JD Property clients took advantage
of the lighting retrofit and programmable thermostat installations. “Our clients were pleased with the results, both aesthetically and financially,” said Christine. JD Property sweetened the deal for its clients by pitching in 50 percent of the client’s cost.

Dr. Julian Lee, owner of the Fine Art Gallery in Garden Grove, was especially pleased. “The change in lighting has improved the atmosphere in the gallery. We will recover the initial investment in a short time, especially since our landlord agreed to pay for half the cost.”

Practice What They Preach
JD Property Management also took advantage of the opportunity to replace the lighting system and thermostats in their Costa Mesa office. As a result, they are enjoying a savings of ten percent on their monthly utility bill.
